1969 Ford Escort Mexico

Vincent from Hastings, ENG. Jeff from Kent, ENG. Car: 1969 Ford Escort Mexico.

At the finish: “The last stages were good - could do that all the time. What a well organised rally”

SS47: “Cruising today - can’t make anything up - believe we are leading class A”

SS45: “We stopped to change a puncture at 11km into the last stage, so we lost time”

SS38: “That was alright, I liked that one - getting used to the roads, but I’m pushing tomorrow - my rally really starts”

SS37: “Slippery, and tough. Our times should tell how we went”

SS36: “Didn’t like that, all those drops & corners, tight sphincter”

SS35: “Back going again now. Sheared fly wheel bolts repaired & ok”

SS34: “In SS31 we sheared the flywheel 2km into stage. At close of stage, service crew came in & repaired, but then we had no clutch in 32 cos we couldn’t bleed it. Ah, now I have no clutch again”

SS27 & SS27a: The navigator when offered the drivers seat said “F.. off, I’m not crazy”

SS25: “OK. But really, those stages are too fast for us”

SS24: “In SS22 I drove like a fool, I should have done better”

SS23: “Absolutely brilliant! Great roads, great organisation. Great to be able to rejoin after missing a stage. Great idea of organisers”

SS22: Stopped in stage. Crew OK

SS18: “That stage cost us a dollar. The crockshaft was out of balance, so the boys tapped at dollar to. We lost it a 100m back”

SS17:  “I like that one, the brakes are a bit worn now & we don’t have many spares”

SS16: “All good. Saw car 21 behind us at the end”

SS15: ): “Scary”

SS14: “Worth coming all the way for that stage”

SS13: “The muddy bits were difficult in last 10km.”

SS12: “Too rough, no good for us”

SS11a: “Stopped & helped with fire extinguishers for 35″

SS7: “I liked that one. 100 horsepower more would be great for that stage”

SS6:  ”Better for me that one. I’m only a baby engine”

SS5:  “Too fast four our 1600, but great”

SS4: “Good, nice flowing stage, what I would give a with a set of notes in there”
